Tea tree oil is a potent herbal extraction of the Melaleuca tree. It is extensively used for medicinal purposes in the African countries where it is considered a compelling antiseptic. This oil is a very effective anti-fungal material and can be used for curing fungal infections like dandruff, which is an acute fungal infection caused on the scalp by the dermatophytes present there. It has proved very effective in fighting the infection caused by the harmful dermatophytes Malassezia furfur.

A very efficient herbal medication, Tea tree oil also yields favorable results in case of insect bites. It can also be used for the effective treatment of poison ivy, sunburns, ear infections, and bee stings. Oral care products containing Tea tree oil like mouthwashes and toothpastes have been very effective in curing the problem of (bad breath) or halitosis. Such products can also yield very positive results if used for the treatment of Canker sores, which are a kind of mouth ulcers.

They are characterized by symptoms like open sore, which occur due to a rupturing of the mucous membrane on the lip. These sores can be caused due to a variety of reasons like chemical or physical strain, infection from viruses, cancerous processes, and certain side effects of medications. Tea tree oil can be used to cure mouth ulcers with efficiency. Tea tree oil can also be used for the treatment of cold sores caused by the Herpes simplex virus. Cold sores are characterized by formation of watery chafes on the mucous membranes of the sex organs, mouth and lips or epidermal skin. Tea tree oil can also be used to combat the viral infections of shingles sores, chicken pox, and warts.

Tea tree oil is also widely used in the preparation of cosmetic formulations. It is important to remember that Melaleuca oil or Tea tree oil as it is more commonly known is only used for external skin. When consumed, tea tree oil can cause several problems like stupor and ataxia. Oral products containing tea tree oil can also be used for the effective treatment of gum problems. It is important to use the diluted version of tea tree oil as application of an undiluted formulation can lead to skin irritation in humans and death in animals. Other abnormalities of external use of undiluted tea tree oil include formation of abnormal breast in young men. Tea tree oil should also be not used for internal part of the ear.

Tea tree oil became an object of common use in 1920′s-1930 when an article stating its positive effects was written by the renowned investigator Arthur Penfold. The commercial use of this product started in the 1970′s and the 1980′s when large plantations were set up to facilitate the production of this plant. Tea tree oil is, in fact, released from the special species of plant called the Melaleuca alternifolia but it can also be produced from the sub-species of the same plant called the Melaleuca dissitiflora and the Melaleuca linariifolia.

Tea tree oil acne and boils treatment is becomming more and more common and worth exploring.

A boil is an inflamed area, usually based in a hair follicle, and can be caused by a physical condition such as acne, or severe dermatitis and can also result from low immunity, irritations, an illness, stress, food allergy, poor diet, shaving, plucking hairs or poor hygiene. A boil usually starts as a tender area, becoming hard and swelling, and eventually softening and forming a head. The head is filled with bacteria and the white blood cells fighting the infection (pus). Staphylococcus is the bacteria that is usually found in the pus of a boil.

The bacteria involved are those usually present on healthy skin, so the boil is an indication of low resistance to infection. It is advised not to lance the boil, because bacteria can spread to nearby skin and create new boils. Apply hot packs for up to 20 minutes at a time, throughout the day, as the heat draws more white blood cells, thereby helping to fight the infection. Do not cover with a bandaid. Wash with tea tree oil soap and apply antiseptic cream containing tea tree oil. A drop or two of tea tree oil may also be applied directly to the boil. Dab it on with a piece of clean cotton, do not rub or otherwise irritate the boil.

Procedure to be followed periodically throughout the day:

Dab some tea tree oil onto the boil with a piece of cotton to help bring it to a head, then cover with a piece of gauze. Cover the gauze with a damp washcloth, followed by a dry towel and then apply a heating pad. Leave on a low temperature for about 15 minutes. Change your dressing and reapply the tea tree oil. The oil helps bring the boil to a head while the warm compress helps pull the infection out of the skin; the tea tree oil then acts as an antiseptic and antibiotic on the bacteria in the pus. Be sure to throw away the gauze each time, and wash your hands with tea tree oil soap each time you handle the gauze or touch the boil.

Sometimes a boil’s bacteria can spread to a lymph node that is nearby. If there is a boil on the neck, check the lymph glands for swelling and tenderness. You should visit a doctor if this occurs, also if there is fever or lethargy. It’s important to learn to listen to your body and recognize when tea tree oil acne and boils treatment will be enough, and when you need the help of a doctor.

The world is fast waking up to the wonders of tea tree oil. The famous beauty brand “The Body Shop” has an entire line of products made from tea tree oil. These products are very helpful in preventing blemishes. They deeply purify and cleanse your skin along with absorbing excess oil. Body Shop is one of the many companies that have woken up to the amazing uses of Tea tree oil especially for acne.

Tea tree leaves were earlier used as a substitute for tea, which is how tree oil got its name. The Tea Tree oil is obtained from steam distillation of the leaves of the tree Melaleuca alternifolia. Among the 100 compounds contained in the oil terpinen-4-ol mainly accounts for most of the antimicrobial actions. This tree is native to the New South Wales located in Australia.

Tea Tree oil was used in Australia as a potent antiseptic much before any scientific research. However the recent studies support use of tea tree oil in skin care and various aliments including acne, dandruff, toenail infection, fungal infection, and Athlete’s foot. It is also used in toothpaste, mouthwashes, soaps and shampoos all over the world. It is also used to cure flu, cough and to clear congestion.

Tea Tree Oil Acne Treatment

Tea tree oil contains terepinen-4-ol that is mostly responsible for its antimicrobial properties. This helps in killing the harmful bacteria. Using tea tree oil to acne lesion helps to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is responsible for causing acne.

Tea tree oil is very effective in treatment of moderate acne. A random trial was done to prove this by the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Department of Dermatology on 124 people. This trail compared the effectiveness and tolerance of 5% tea tree oil and 5% benzoyl peroxide. The results showed that there was significant reduction using tea tree oil, albeit with slower onset of action.

Even though tea tree oil took more time in showing results, there were fewer side effects like burning, itching, dryness and stinging that benezoyl peroxide group showed.

Another study in 2007 on 60 patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris also gave notably better results than placebo.

Using Tea Tree Oil for Acne

Unadulterated tea tree oil should not be applied to acne lesion as it causes burning, itching, dryness, redness, skin irritation and even blistering. The concentration that is advised is 5% tea tree oil gel which can be applied to effected areas.

To make 5% tea tree oil solution mix 5 parts of tea tree oil to 95 parts of water (5cc of 100% tea tree oil to 95cc of water).

Brenda Harper, Calfornian aesthetician uses it on a regular basis with clients who experience acne, with “wonderful results,”. She recommends application of Glycolic acid after dabbing tea tree oil on the affected areas and waiting for 15 minutes.

While tea tree oil is safe, as long as not used internally. Data on oral use of tea tree oil is very little and reports of side effects of oral ingestion.

All essential oils should be used safely in order to treat various conditions and promote inner peace and relaxation. However, all essential oils are not safe. In fact, some of them can negatively interact with prescription and over-the-counter medications. They can either dull or increase their power. This is why it is imperative to perform your due diligence, which may include speaking with a trained aromotherapist, before you begin using essential oils. The essential oils that are generally considered as safe are lavender and tea tree oil.

Lavender essential oil is created by extracting the oil from the lavender plant. It is used for both medicinal and enjoyment purposes. Studies have shown that lavender oil is effective in treating alopecia, stress, insomnia and even acts as an anti-bacterial agent. It can effectively be used with massage and acupuncture. Lavender is believed to be able to improve sleep, help individuals relax and lighten one’s mood by slowing down the nervous system. In Germany, lavender tea is given to people who suffer from the inability to sleep. Lavender oil is also believed to be able to help individuals that suffer from headaches, acne, fungal infections and eczema.

Tea tree oil is the other essential oil that is safe to use. You are likely to find lot of products that are infused with tea tree oil at your local beauty supply store or even Wal-mart.

There are some precautions that should be taken. Some studies have found that tea tree oil may affect hormones and may cause the breast tissue in boys to enlarge. Consequently, you may not want to allow your teen son to use it. Tea tree oil is generally safe for external use, but should never be taken internally.

However, tea tree oil does have some very good uses. It can be used to help in the healing of burns, cuts and skin infections. Other common uses include the treatment of acne, dandruff, eczema, boils, psoriasis, thrush, dandruff and athletes foot.

Tea tree oil and lavender oil are two of the most safe essential oils available. They are generally considered safe by the traditional and alternative health communities. If you have any questions about any intended uses for either of these essential oils, it is recommended that you speak with an aromatherapist who can provide you with the proper guidance.

Tea tree oil is extracted from a tree known as Melaleuca. The scientific name for this essential oil is Melaleuca Alternifolia. It is an antifungal agent mostly used for various types of skin disorders. It is also added as an ingredient to beauty products, the most popular of which is face wash.

Tea tree oil acne treatment is most suitable for the cure of moderate acne. It is applied as a topical or rub-on treatment. It is recommended to use tea tree oil only externally. Although it can prove to be effective for a lot of people out there, some people show sensitivity to it.

Tea tree oil acne treatment is used to get rid of many types of bacteria including staphyloccus, eschrichia coli and shigella sonnei. Staphyloccus is responsible for causing furuncles which are very similar to pimples as they are also painful nodules that appear on the surface of skin.

This essential oil is most commonly known as a treatment for various viral and bacterial infections. It is also added to mouthwashes and other products for the treatment of mouth ulcers and other conditions. Similarly, some people use it for the treatment of dandruff, lice, yeast infection, eczema, oil spots and nail infections.

It has been found that tea tree oil acne treatment does not guarantee complete acne cure. However, it does lessen acne breakouts and cure them temporarily as do many other topical acne treatments. It is recommended to use a good quality facial wash that contains tea tree oil as a main ingredient for proper cleansing of skin and to control pimples and prevent other skin disorders.

Some people are allergic to tea tree oil especially if they have sensitive skin. You should immediately discontinue its use if you experience redness of skin, irritation or rash. There are many other acne treatments that can be used instead of tea tree oil if it hasn’t proven to be useful for you.

Young boys who use shampoos and lotions containing essential oils like lavender and tea tree oils may end up with enlarged breasts.

This shocking side effect was reported by researchers at the University of Colorado and the environmental health branch of the US National Institutes of Health in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The strange condition known as gynecomastia was observed in three boys aged 4, 7, and 10 who developed enlarged breasts after using skin lotions, hair gel, shampoo, and soap containing the natural oils.

“These plant oils, sometimes called ‘essential oils,’ are added to many health-care products, usually for their scent. The oils are sometimes found in other household products or sold in purer forms. Tea tree oil is sometimes used in shampoos for head lice,” revealed Jeff Donn of the Associated Press.

“The three boys were brought to their doctors with overdeveloped breasts that looked like those of girls in early puberty. They were sore in one case. For each boy, doctors could tie the problem only to their use over several months of the natural-oil products,” Donn added.

It wasn’t clear how the oils led to this problem but researchers suspect they contained chemicals that affected the boys’ hormonal balance. They appear to mimic estrogen, the female hormone that promotes breast growth.

The oils are believed to have affected young girls in the same way, including a 17-month-old child whose parents used a lavender soap to wash her feeding bottle, according to Dr. Clifford Bloch, a hormone specialist in Greenwood Village, Colorado, who treated the patients.

“Be cautious. I would not give these products to my children,” Bloch said.

“On product labels, the oils sometimes are listed by their scientific names: Lavandula angustifolia (lavender oil) and Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree oil). Such products do not require government approval to be sold unless they make specific health claims,” Donn revealed.

None of the researchers, however, called for a ban of these products, considering that the problem is rare and clears up when they are no longer used. However, they did advise parents to consider the risks of using such products.

As we wait for more developments in this area, it’s best to use other products in the meantime, especially since the long term effects of the above essentials oils remain unknown. For those considering breast augmentation, play safe by using the Clevastin Natural Breast Enlargement System. This product contains natural plant estrogens that will tighten and improve your breasts. Check out http://www.clevastin.com for more information.

We have all heard of the famous British explorer captain Cook. In 1770 captain Cook landed Botany Bay near the site that eventually would become known as Sydney, Australia. During this period of discovery he came across the “Healing ground” area which was named by the aborigines, it was an area filled with trees. Cook observed the aborigines as they applied crushed leaves, gathered from these trees, to open wounds. They also brewed tea from those same leaves which Cook found spicy and refreshing and it was he who gave the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree its common name “The tea tree”.

Captain Cook and his crew would later on take samples of the tea tree back to England for further study but nothing ever became of those studies and as a result the medical properties of the Melaleuca Alternifolia remained undiscovered to those outside of Australia.

Dr Dennis Considen, who was a surgeon recognized the medical properties of the tea tree but due to lack of training and equipment the powerful potential of the oil remained dormant for the next 150 years. In 1923 Dr.A. Penfold, an Australian chemist studied the tea tree oil in depth after distilling it and found that it had significant antiseptic as well as bactericidal properties. He presented his findings in 1925 to the Royal Society of new South Wales and England, you can find the first medical reference to the qualities of tea tree oil in the medical journal of Australia 1930.

When World War 2 broke out the melaleuca oil was an essential part of every Australian first aid kit as they fully recognized the many medical qualities that lie within it.

Later on, in 1960 further studies were conducted in an attempt to rediscover and recertify the effects of the tea tree oil and so it begun, the tea tree and its oil became the hit of the century and as a result the Australian government had to set some standards for development of acceptable quality oil which included a concentration of at least 35% terpinen 4-ol & no more than 10 % cineole.

Eventually the old standards would change slightly to accommodate room for further proliferation and in the current day, melaleuca oil is recognized & sold world wide. It has undergone extensive research and has proven its multiple medical benefits, a good quality oil today would have at least 35% terpinen 4-ol & no more than 10% cineole which is the 1967 standard.

Melaleuca has once more been re-recognized as an extremely effective cure for a variety of medical conditions. Who would have ever thought that a tree would have such a long and complex history?

So, the answer is yes, health, wellness & a tea tree do connect. Infact, they have connected so well that some companies have used melaleuca oil in many of their products to establish a successful health line.

Many have been blessed to learn and gain from the multiple benefits of the tea tree and for me, it was a discovery beyond all medical discoveries.
