Great facial skin care starts by understanding the sun destroys collagen through repeated sun exposure. Skin texture naturally changes over time and can lead to dry and rough-textured skin. The environment and lifestyle choices we make can affect skin tone, causing sun and age spots known as hyper-pigmentation.

Most of us start off with even skin color and tone but as our skin is exposed to environmental pollutants, the sun, and UVA & UVB rays, it begins to change and takes on an aged appearance. The best facial skin care avoids certain types of oils like mineral and coconut, which can potentially clog your pores and may even be detrimental to the health of your skin.

Here is a summary of four oils that provide critical benefits to an effective, long-lasting facial skin care program:

1. Wheat Germ Oil – A rich source of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, wheat germ oil is known as the acne fighter. Wheat germ oil is documented to be effective in treating acne, blemishes, and provides antioxidant protective properties. Look for an anti aging skin care product that has wheat germ oil as an ingredient if acne is a problem.

2. Almond Oil – has been known for centuries for its ability to nourish and soothe sensitive skin. All skin types can use an anti aging skin care product with an almond oil base.

3. Tea Tree Oil – has been used in the Far East culture for generations as a skin healer.

Additionally, it carries oxygen into the hair follicles, reducing and killing bacteria that lead to pimples. All skin types can benefit from an anti aging skin care product with pure tea tree oil extract.

4. Jojoba Oil – helps reduce the production of unsightly skin oil while actually strengthening the skin. Every facial skin care program can benefit by an anti aging skin care product with jojoba oil as the base.

As we age, moisture levels in the skin begin to drop causing it to become dry and dehydrated which, in turn, makes fine lines and wrinkles very noticeable. A leading dermatologist says that the correct oil fills in the spaces between the cells in the upper levels of the skin. By filling the spaces, oil-based products smooth and lubricate aging skin. Additionally, oils are significantly easier to absorb into the skin as opposed to water-based moisturizers due to their chemical structures.

If you are getting ready to buy facial cleanser cream, you might be interested to know about some recent findings. You might think of facial cleansers as safe, soapy goodness. The idea that the ingredients they contain could be detrimental to your long-term health is surprising to many of us. That’s why Skin Deep, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and other public safety advocates are trying to keep us informed.

Dioxane is a chemical that is listed as a known human carcinogen in the state of California and as a “probable” human carcinogen on other lists. It’s detrimental to the environment, because it is not biodegradable and, obviously, it contributes to our cancer risks.

Any facial cleanser cream that contains ethylene oxide may be contaminated with Dioxane, as it can form during the manufacturing process. A recent examination of a number of different “natural” and “organic” facial cleansers found them all to contain high levels of Dioxane. California has sued these companies. They must correct the problem, pay a fine or add the phrase “this product may cause cancer” to their labels.

The scary part is that the findings did not cause a recall of the facial cleansers. They are still on the market. One company, so far, has come forth to say that they will correct the problem, now that they have been made “aware” of it. My question is this. Why weren’t they aware of it in the first place?

The better manufacturers test their raw ingredients for contaminants and then check the finished product, as well. If they find unhealthy levels of contaminants, the whole batch is discarded. So, before you buy a facial cleanser cream, check out the manufacturer and find out about their testing protocols.

Personally, I use all-natural daily facial cleansers that contain ingredients like manuka honey and tea tree oil. They are soothing. Yet they have natural anti-bacterial activity and they are completely biodegradable.

On a bi-weekly basis, I use a deep cleansing mask that helps to delay the signs of age and prevents dryness on my face and neck. The ingredients are natural clay extracts that gently pulls dirt out of my pores and absorbs excessive oils. I would suggest it to anyone, because I know that the manufacturer guarantees purity and uses only the highest quality ingredients.

The mask is unlike others that are on the market. Most of them dry to a hard shell that is difficult to remove. This facial cleanser cream combines the clay extracts with macadamia oil, which is simply luxurious, and Shea butter, so that the mask does not dry out. It also includes manuka honey, because of its antibacterial and antioxidant activity.

I would have never thought that facial cleansers could make my skin look younger, but this one really works. The key ingredient, according to the manufacturer, is Functional Keratin.

Shop carefully for your personal care products and if you want to delay and counter the affects of time, look for a facial cleanser cream mask that contains Functional Keratin.

You might disagree, but hear me out on this. What should you consider before you buy an olive oil facial cleanser? You might want to think about the fact that oils could not be cleansing. One of the primary purposes of using cleansers is to remove excessive oils.

When natural oils, called sebum, build up on the skin, bacteria, which is normally present, feed on them. Sebum has some natural antibacterial activity, but only when it is initially secreted. Olive “leaf” extract has some natural antibacterial activity, too. But, it is due to a compound that is not present in the oil.

If the sebum and the bacteria continue to build up, pimples or blemishes can occur. After a while, if it is not cleaned away, odor occurs. Cleansers are an important part of any skincare ritual. While an olive oil facial cleanser might be alright for occasional use, it is not something that you would want to use on a daily basis.

People with excessive dryness may find that the popular cleansers are irritating. My suggestion is tea tree oil. It might sound like I am contradicting myself, but tea tree oil has natural antibacterial activity. Another excellent choice is manuka honey. It, too, has natural antibacterial and antioxidant activity.

The problem with most cleansers is that they contain petroleum-based alcohols. These cause burning, redness and irritation. They strip away sebum, which only stimulates the production of more. So, they are a bad choice for people with excessive oiliness or excessive dryness.

One of the things that an olive oil facial cleanser could provide is moisture. But, the cleansing would come from the use of clean clothes and warm water, not from the olive oil, itself. Your best bet is to use a gentle cleansing solution on a daily basis. There are many on the market.

On a bi-weekly or an occasional basis, use a deep cleansing mask. You may have tried masks before and found that they dried out after a few minutes. They were difficult to remove and might even have caused some irritation.

There are new masks on the market that will not dry out, because they contain macadamia oil. That is a luxurious moisturizer that soothes and nourishes the skin’s layers.

The cleansing ingredients in the mask are bentone gel, allantoin and kaolin. You will not find those ingredients in an olive oil facial cleanser. They are extracts from clay and sugar beets that work together to absorb excessive oils and pull dirt out of the pores.

Regardless of how dry your skin is, there is dirt and pollutants that need to be removed on a daily basis. There is no need to use an abrasive cleanser. But you do need to use something that has some cleansing activity.

Do yourself a favor. After cleansing, follow up with a nourishing moisturizer. Use one that contains grape seed oil during the day and one that contains avocado oil at night. You are not likely to be happy with the results of an olive oil facial cleanser. But, you have other options.

Are there cancer-causing chemicals in your facial cleanser cream? California recently sued a number of cosmetic companies, requiring them to change their formulations, pay a fine or include the warning label “this product may cause cancer” on their bottles.

The state named four different companies in the suit. All of which were supposed to be providing all natural and/or organic body and facial cleansers. We often pay more for what we believe are safer, more environmentally friendly products. It seems there may be better ways to spend our money.

California’s suit concerned the chemical Dioxane. It forms when a petrochemical called ethylene oxide is used to make other ingredients water soluble. Companies can easily vacuum strip the Dioxane residue out of their cleaning products. They choose not to, because they are not required to, and because it would cost them a few pennies extra.

They could also use other processes to make the ingredients water soluble. They prefer to use petrochemicals, because they are cheaper. The rising cost of crude oil may encourage them to look at safer alternatives, which will provide us with safer facial cleanser cream.

Right now, you can protect your safety by not buying facial cleansers that list ethylene oxide as an ingredient. If you want the safest facial cleansers, you’ll look for a brand that does not include any petrochemicals, at all.

For daily cleansing, the safest and most effective ingredients are tea tree oil, orange oil and active manuka honey. If you have sensitive skin, orange oil can be irritating, but tea tree oil is very soothing and has antibacterial activity.

The antibacterial agent included in the average facial cleanser cream is triclosan. Environmentalists would prefer that we avoid that one, because it is damaging the ecosystem. It ends up in the water supply and is not biodegradable.

Like tea tree oil, active manuka honey has antibacterial activity. It is also an effective antioxidant that can help prevent free radical damage. Free radical damage is one of the causes of winkle formation, lost firmness and all of the signs of aging.

One of the best facial cleansers on the market is a deep cleansing mask that you use every two weeks. It combines manuka honey with other anti-aging ingredients, along with clay extracts that pull dirt out of the pores and absorb excessive oils.

Unlike the average facial cleanser cream, it does not dry to a hard shell that is difficult to remove. You simply rinse it off after 20 or 30 minutes.

Some of the most popular facial cleansers contain mild acids designed to exfoliate or remove dead skin cells. The idea of exfoliation is kind of silly, in the first place, because regular washing removes dead skin cells. It is also highly irritating, causes redness and inflammation, which is another of the causes of the signs of aging.

My recommendation is this. Use a safe and gentle daily facial cleanser cream and a bi-weekly deep cleansing mask. You’ll look better for it.

Some women swear by olive oil facial cleansers and they may be very good for someone who has excessively dry skin, but the oils are not actually cleansing ingredients. If you follow the recommended use for an olive oil facial cleanser, you will use warm water, a clean cloth and you’ll massage. It is the massaging that loosens dirt and dead skin-cells, but if you have any excessive oils, they won’t be removed in this manner.

There are multi-ingredient olive oil facial cleansers on the market. You just need to learn about the other ingredients in the bottle before you begin to use it. If you want something gentle, but a little more effective, you might want to look for tea tree oil. It has antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Of course neither a single-ingredient olive oil facial cleanser nor tea tree oil will foam.

Any of the ingredients can be combined with foaming agents, but if you see ethylene oxide listed on the label, proceed with caution. It is known to cause the formation of cancer-causing Dioxane during the manufacturing process. Even some of the so-called “natural” products contain it. Manufactures should test completed batches for this contaminant, but most of them don’t.

Unless you have very dry skin, an olive oil facial cleanser is not the best choice. If you do have dry skin, your problem may be more than just the cleansing products that you are currently using.

All cleansing agents cause some dryness and should be followed by a safe and effective moisturizer. Some cleansing agents are more drying than others. If the daily products that you are using contain ethanol, methanol or other petroleum based alcohols, then they are causing a lot of your problems. If the moisturizer that you use contains petrolatum, it isn’t actually moisturizing your skin.

Olive oil facial cleansers will help you get your skin back in condition, but follow up with an excellent day cream and a rejuvenating night cream. The ingredients to look for include Functional Keratin and grape seed oil for the daytime, Functional Keratin and avocado oil for nighttime use.

There is only so much that an olive oil facial cleanser can do. For those of you who have some oily spots, they can make the problem worse. There are some active elements in olives that are goodyou’re your skin’s health. They include vitamin E and essential fatty acids, but extracts from olives are better ingredients than the oil itself.

Skin experts suggest the inclusion of olive-extract in body lotion, but they normally don’t recommend olive oil facial cleansers. They do recommend a bi-weekly mask that contains clay extracts and macadamia oil, which is luxurious and penetrates deeply. It also prevents the clay from drying out on your skin.

Now, you know a little more about the alternatives to an olive oil facial cleanser. Find out more about what the experts have to say about your skin’s health. You’ll find that olive oil facial cleansers are rarely on their list.
