Umm, yum. Age for 2 weeks; add an equal amount of high-proof alcohol. Age again and use.

One of the most uses of tea tree essential oil is in the treatment of skin disorders. Acne is a very common disease involving the sebaceous glands. It affects about 90% of men and women at some point during their lives.

In 1990, one of Australia’s leading dermatologists carried out an acne study at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney comparing 5% benzoyl peroxide and 5% tea tree essential oil. Both agents performed equally as well in reducing the acne, with tea tree oil having a slightly slower effect. However, comparing the two agents, tea tree oil had significantly less side effects, suggesting more frequent application and higher concentration is possible.

People with acne tend to excrete more sebaceous lipids onto the surface of the skin than unaffected people. In combination with normally shed dead skin cells, this may lead to clogging of the pores. Bacterial (propionibacterium acnes) infection is another component of acne. A clogged hair follicle becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. This can result in redness and puss-filled bumps (the dreaded zit).

Topical treatment is difficult because the medicine needs to penetrate the skin in sufficient concentration, and be strong enough not to be inactivated by the presence of blood and puss. But it also has to be gentle enough to not cause irritation. Tea tree essential oil dissolves pus and kills bacteria, leaving the area clean and tissue undamaged.

Other interesting uses of tree tea oil:

- The tea tree has been used by the Bundjalung Aborigines in Australia for centuries to heal wounds, burns, and infections.

- The plant has antiseptic properties, as well as being a germicide, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, immune-boosting, cleanser/disinfectant. Its oil is unusual in that it is effective against all three types of infectious organisms: bacteria, viruses and fungi.

- When applied to cuts, burns or bruises, it can lessen pain, speed healing and reduce inflammation.

- A few drops can be added to bath water to soothe tight muscles, and the warm steam can help to clear congestion from lungs and sinuses.

- Tea tree essential oil is widely used in massage by aromatherapists to boost the immune system.

- A one percent solution in laundry water kills dust mites which is a common cause of asthma in many people.

Tea tree is tolerated by most when applied directly without the use of a dilutant. Some individuals may be sensitive to tea tree, so always do a patch test before using anything new on your body.

Note: tea tree essential oil can be dangerous if swallowed. As little as 5 ml can be toxic to a small child, so it’s important to keep it out of reach of children.

The benefits of tea tree oil for your skin

Tea tree oil is an essential oil which is yellow- or green-tinged with a fresh amphoraceous smell. It is produced by steam distillation of the leaves of the plant – Melaleuca alternifolia, more commonly known as the Australian tea tree. As the name suggests, the trees are native to Australia and have been used for thousands of years by the aboriginals in Australia for healing wounds, cuts, abrasions, burns and infections by applying the crushed leaves to the affected areas.

These days the tea tree oil is being used as an antiseptic to treat burns, cuts, insect bites etc. It has anti-inflammatory properties and hence can be used as a topical application to give relief in conditions like arthritis, eczema, bursitis and gout.It can also give relief from pain because of its analgesic property. The oil is also anti-fungal. In some hospitals in Australia, it has been used before surgery to boost the affected immune system and in a London hospital, a study has been done and it was shown that the Tea Tree Oil can be an alternative to Vancomysin in countering the super bug methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Tea tree oil when inhaled makes breathing easier by acting as a decongestant. It can alleviate symptoms of sore throat and decrease the symptoms of cold and flu.

SKIN
The Tea tree oil has many uses for the skin. Its proven antifungal properties can be used to treat candidacies, ringworm, athlete’s foot and thrush. It can also be used to treat dandruff because it fights Malassezia furfur, which is most common cause for this affliction. Fungal nail infections can be cured by application of a formulation containing tea tree oil twice daily and relief can be typically seen in 3-4 months.

As a strong anti-viral agent, Tea Tree is effective in fighting many common infectious diseases such as cold, shingles, measles, flu and chicken pox.

Tea tree oil is effective in treating boils, insect bites, minor wounds, soothe inflammation caused by sunburn poison ivy and bee stings.

The essential oil is also known to prevent foul body odor and soothe burning feet. It reduces scarring caused by hypertrophy. When massaged, tea tree oil may alleviate the discomfort of joint injuries and sore muscles.
It can also be used in the treatment of acne. When topically applied, a 5% solution of tea tree oil has been proved as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide though it had a slower onset of action.

The oil can be used effectively for treating nappy/Diaper rash in babies which is cause.

Research has also shown that tea tree oil may have topical anti-viral property, with the Herpes virus, chicken pox, cold sores, warts, and shingles blisters, etc.

A word of caution; though tea tree oil is safe to use, it should not be used undiluted as in case of all essential oils. Undiluted Tea Tree Oil can cause irritation, itchiness, and redness on sensitive skin. Therefore, in case of people with sensitive skin, it is prudent to dilute the tea tree oil in another base oil like olive oil or even sunflower oil.

You might disagree, but hear me out on this. What should you consider before you buy an olive oil facial cleanser? You might want to think about the fact that oils could not be cleansing. One of the primary purposes of using cleansers is to remove excessive oils.

When natural oils, called sebum, build up on the skin, bacteria, which is normally present, feed on them. Sebum has some natural antibacterial activity, but only when it is initially secreted. Olive “leaf” extract has some natural antibacterial activity, too. But, it is due to a compound that is not present in the oil.

If the sebum and the bacteria continue to build up, pimples or blemishes can occur. After a while, if it is not cleaned away, odor occurs. Cleansers are an important part of any skincare ritual. While an olive oil facial cleanser might be alright for occasional use, it is not something that you would want to use on a daily basis.

People with excessive dryness may find that the popular cleansers are irritating. My suggestion is tea tree oil. It might sound like I am contradicting myself, but tea tree oil has natural antibacterial activity. Another excellent choice is manuka honey. It, too, has natural antibacterial and antioxidant activity.

The problem with most cleansers is that they contain petroleum-based alcohols. These cause burning, redness and irritation. They strip away sebum, which only stimulates the production of more. So, they are a bad choice for people with excessive oiliness or excessive dryness.

One of the things that an olive oil facial cleanser could provide is moisture. But, the cleansing would come from the use of clean clothes and warm water, not from the olive oil, itself. Your best bet is to use a gentle cleansing solution on a daily basis. There are many on the market.

On a bi-weekly or an occasional basis, use a deep cleansing mask. You may have tried masks before and found that they dried out after a few minutes. They were difficult to remove and might even have caused some irritation.

There are new masks on the market that will not dry out, because they contain macadamia oil. That is a luxurious moisturizer that soothes and nourishes the skin’s layers.

The cleansing ingredients in the mask are bentone gel, allantoin and kaolin. You will not find those ingredients in an olive oil facial cleanser. They are extracts from clay and sugar beets that work together to absorb excessive oils and pull dirt out of the pores.

Regardless of how dry your skin is, there is dirt and pollutants that need to be removed on a daily basis. There is no need to use an abrasive cleanser. But you do need to use something that has some cleansing activity.

Do yourself a favor. After cleansing, follow up with a nourishing moisturizer. Use one that contains grape seed oil during the day and one that contains avocado oil at night. You are not likely to be happy with the results of an olive oil facial cleanser. But, you have other options.

Lavender pure essential oil is native to the Mediterranean. It grows in open fields and on mountain slopes, giving off an intense aroma when it blooms. It is not primarily grown and harvested in Provence. The most potent form of Lavender is the oil. And the finest oil is distilled from Lavandula Officinalis. This variety only grows at altitudes above 3000 feet. Below are listed some of the lavender oil uses.

Lavender’s pure and clean scent is well known. It is the most commonly used essential oil and the absolute classic oil for treating burns!

A universal first aid healing oil, Lavender has broad application and may be beneficial for treating an assortment of wounds, as well as for relieving inflammatory conditions like fever blisters, rheumatism, sore muscles and back pain.

As a woman with fibromyalgia, I have made it a personal project to learn about herbal therapies to help myself manage my own headaches and chronic pain. As a nurse, I feel compelled to share alternative therapies that can ease the pain of migraine and help us manage the stress of daily living that triggers migraine headaches, muscle aches and depression.

Tea tree oils noted for their antimicrobial properties are frequently found in hair and skin care products. Even skeptics accept that mint and eucalyptus relieve stuffy noses caused by colds and flu. The perfume industry has always marketed the mood-invoking power of scent. Scents are marketed as sensual, sexy, calming, refreshing, natural, and romantic. Shopping malls use scent to create a mood.

Lavender oil has a very strong floral spice scent and its healing properties are renowned all over the world. It can revitalize and rejuvenate the immune system and help in the building of white blood cells in the blood. It has excellent antiseptic and anti-viral properties which is why it is so efficient in giving relief from the herpes virus. It is also an excellent cure for other skin infections including athlete’s foot, when blended with thyme and clove. It also has anti-inflammatory properties which help prevent fever blisters.

Lavender is excellent for skin care and promotes healing and regeneration for all skin types, especially dry skin.

Add to your shampoo for helping to reduce hair loss. Also good for regulating sebum production to relieve oily/dry scalp conditions. Helpful for controlling dandruff!

Use Lavender for burns, rashes, acne, eczema, boils, dermatitis, leg ulcers, and psoriasis. Apply it immediately to burns to prevent blistering, or scarring, as well as speed healing of wounds as it stimulates cellular repair and regeneration.

Lavender can be used for headaches, migraines and sore muscle relief. Lavender eases joint stiffness and helps us cope with chronic pain. Interestingly enough, lavender has antiseptic qualities and even repels insects naturally.

Lavender is one of the only 2 essential oils that can be used directly on skin with no dilution!

Mold Deterrent 1/4 cup white vinegar, 3/4 cup water, 2 drops Cinnamon Leaf 5 drops Patchouli, 2 Teaspoons Tea Tree & 2 drops Tagettes. Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle. If you already have a buildup of mold or mildew, allow the spray to “rest” on the surface for a few hours. Wipe with a soft cloth, re-spray the area and let dry without rinsing.

The world is fast waking up to the wonders of tea tree oil. The famous beauty brand “The Body Shop” has an entire line of products made from tea tree oil. These products are very helpful in preventing blemishes. They deeply purify and cleanse your skin along with absorbing excess oil. Body Shop and many other companies have created lines of tea tree oil products to help treat acne.

Tea tree leaves were earlier used as a substitute for tea, which is how the tea tree got its name. The Tea Tree oil is obtained from steam distillation of the leaves of the tree Melaleuca alternifolia. Among the 100 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol accounts for most of the antimicrobial properties. This tree is native to the New South Wales located in Australia.

Tea Tree oil was used in Australia as a potent antiseptic much before any scientific research. However the recent studies support use of tea tree oil in skin care and various aliments including acne, dandruff, toenail infection, fungal infection, and Athlete’s foot. It is also used in toothpaste, mouthwashes, soaps and shampoos all over the world. It is also used to cure flu, cough and to clear congestion.

Tea Tree Oil Used for Acne

Tea tree oil contains terepinen-4-ol which is mostly responsible for its antimicrobial properties. This helps in killing the harmful bacteria. Using tea tree oil to treat acne lesion helps to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is responsible for causing acne.

Tea tree oil is very effective in treatment of moderate acne. A random trial was done to prove this by the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Department of Dermatology on 124 people. This trail compared the effectiveness and tolerance of 5% tea tree oil and 5% benzoyl peroxide. The results showed that there was significant reduction using tea tree oil, albeit with slower onset of action.

Even though tea tree oil took more time in showing results, there were fewer side effects like burning, itching, dryness and stinging that benezoyl peroxide group showed.

Another study in 2007 on 60 patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris also gave notably better results than placebo.

Using Tea Tree Oil for Acne

Undiluted tea tree oil should not be applied to an acne lesion as it can cause burning, itching, dryness, redness, skin irritation and even blistering. The concentration that is advised is 5% tea tree oil solution which can be applied to effected areas.

To make 5% tea tree oil solution mix 5 parts of tea tree oil to 95 parts of water (5cc of 100% tea tree oil to 95cc of water).

Brenda Harper, a Californian aesthetician, uses it on a regular basis with clients who experience acne with “wonderful results,”. She recommends application of Glycolic acid after dabbing tea tree oil on the affected areas and waiting for 15 minutes.

Tea tree oil is safe, as long as not used internally. Data on oral use of tea tree oil is very limited and there are some reports of side effects of oral ingestion.

Aromatherapy is a traditionally used concept used for beauty, calming senses, meditation, health care and healing. It involves use of herbs, infused oil, floral waters, carrier oils and other natural substances. The aromatherapy oils are derived from leaves, flowers, barks, berries and leaves. Organic aromatherapy means the essential oils used for aromatherapy are grown organically. These oils are often sold full strength but may also be sold diluted. Diluted oils mean that only a percentage of the oil is of the desired extract and the remainder is carrier oil such as almond or avocado. Organic plants are grown without the treatment of pesticides.

Many organic farmers believe that pesticides not only harm the earth, but they are not healthy to ingest either. Organic farms are checked every few years to test for chemical fertilizers, pesticides or other types of artificial substances. Organic aromatherapy oil is the best choice if you want your mind and body to be treated using the purest forms of nature. Organic aromatherapy oil comes from essential oils that originate from plants that have not been treated by any chemicals. Organic aromatherapy offers a unique purity which will smell and work better for many people than the non organic varieties.

One of the principles of aromatherapy is using natural methods rather than synthetic. Using lavender for organic aromatherapy is a good place to start; lavender is a light delicate scent that has many therapeutic purposes. A few drops of the organic essential oil can be placed in an ounce of almond oil to produce relaxing massage oil. The organic aromatherapy essential oil can also be placed on a cotton cloth to scent the bedding after washing. Simply place 3-4 drops of the pure essential oil onto a plain cotton cloth, after the load of laundry is dried add the scented cloth and tumble with the heat off for an additional 10-15 minutes.

Organic aromatherapy lemon vital oil can be placed in water to have a strong home grip cleaner. Adding tea tree oil to the lemon cleaner will translate the cleaner into a mild but strong disinfectant. Lemon vital oil for healthful aromatherapy can too be added to honey to have drinking warm tea still more pleasant. Breathing in the herbal aroma of the tea combined with the stimulating aroma of lemon can have for a really pleasant dawn goody. Organic aromatherapy is a humor and intriguing manner to change ones climate or merely love a favourite aroma. The excellent character of healthful oils offer the ended merchandise unsurpassed character
