It can be termed as one of the most unhygienic things we come across humans. It is more prevalent among children as they mingle around with kids in the school as well as other kids in one’s building. It is a breeding ground for the lice where too many people or kids come together. Lice have infected people of all ages and they prefer hair which is clean and not oily. Clean hair helps in creating the right environment for the eggs of the lice. It sticks to the clean hair much easily in comparison to oily hair.

It can spread very easily. Physical contact is not the only thing which promotes its breed but usage of things like comb, brush, clothes, towels, clothes by an infected person causes the spread of lice. The survival rate of lice is very good as it can remain alive without human contact for a week and that too without food. Constant itching has been the key symptom, when affected by lice. The common places where you will see these tiny things are on the scalp, neck and even above your ears. The small white eggs would have infested your hair within two days. If one person in the family gets affected be sure that you are on a cleaning mission for everyone in the family.

Some of the common measures to be taken when you are slowly and silently attacked by lice

*Avoid sharing personal items like combs, clothes and other things
*Keep checking your child’s hair for nits and lice
*Thorough cleaning of your bed linen as all members of your family would be using it at one point or the other
*Trimming ones hair is also a good way to prevent any further spread of lice, but it wont get rid of the nits or lice as you have shave your hair for that to happen
*Wash your hair and clothes once you have visited the beauty parlor

Some of the common treatments for removing lice are:

*Once through with shampooing your can use the vinegar conditioner in equal parts with water to remove the nits.
*Clean your comb very regularly or soak them in a disinfectant for better results.
*Use your regular shampoo with 3 tbsp of olive oil, 1 tsp of teas tree oil and 1 tsp of eucalyptus oil. Leave this on your hair for half-hour tightly covered and then rinse it.

These common remedies and many more can be used with proper prevention to ward off the scare of lice and its eggs.

Pediculosis , more commonly known as head lice , is one of the most common hair disorders affecting school-aged children – and one of the most infuriating for parents to deal with. This article contains information on what causes the condition, symptoms to look for and how to treat the condition effectively.

What Causes Pediculosis ?

Pediculosis occurs when the scalp is infested by small, wingless creatures known as head lice. Contrary to popular myth, head lice cannot jump from person to person. Instead, they are transmitted by close personal contact, or contact with the personal effects or clothing of, someone with the condition.

What Are Head Lice ?

Head lice are tiny, wingless creatures that feed on human blood, spending their whole life on the scalp. They are related to body lice, and more distantly to pubic lice. During their life cycle, female lice lay eggs – commonly called nits – which are attached to human hair using a glue-like substance.

How Does The Condition Present Itself?

The most common symptom is itching on or around the head area, as a result of bites from the lice. Bites may be evident high up on the back of the neck or behind the ears, particularly in long-hair individuals. Close inspection of the hair may reveal moving lice, or nits stuck to the hair shafts.

Treatment of Head Lice

A wide variety of commercially-available products and home-remedies may be used to treat the condition. Commercial preparations containing pyrethrins are usually very effective at killing the lice and eggs, as are a number of home remedies. One such method is mixing mayonnaise, vinegar and a little tea-tree oil and ‘shampooing’ the hair with this mixture. The mayonnaise suffocates the lice, while the vinegar and tea-trea oil kill the eggs. Removal of the lice and nits is also necessary. Smothering the hair with olive oil, hair conditioner or mayonnaise breaks the ‘glue’ holding the eggs to the hair shafts, making them much easier to remove.

How To Prevent Pediculosis

Many schools nowadays have a policy whereby either children with pediculosis are excluded from school or childcare settings until the condition is treated or, at the very least, that the condition must be promptly treated by parents. Outbreaks in families can be prevented from spreading by washing all bedding and towels belonging to the afflicted person. Cleaning the home area as a whole generally isn’t necessary, as lice tend to die quickly once removed from their food source.

Unfortunately, many of us have had a run-in with head lice at one time or another, especially those of us with school-aged children. Having lice is not a sign of being unclean, as the pests can infect people of any age and background regardless of their hygiene habits or lack thereof. Luckily there are several common head louse treatment methods that can be completely effective at getting rid of the harmless, but pesky creatures.

Any type of common head louse treatment, in order to be thoroughly effective, must include treating the entire house as well. Although a louse does not survive for long after falling from a host, they are still easily passed from person to person, and a missed nit or egg can re-infest the whole household. It isn’t necessary to spend a lot of money or time using commercial products to rid a house of lice.

Here are some easy tricks for ridding your home of lice and their nits:

- Lice cannot survive in a high-heat environment, so all bed linens, including blankets and mattress pads as well as the sheets, should be washed in very hot water. Water hot enough to kill lice and their eggs must be at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit or over 54.4 degrees Celsius. Clothing should also be washed in water of the same temperature and then put in the clothes dryer on the hottest setting for at least 20 minutes. If you have clothing that cannot be washed in this manner, use a dry cleaner instead.

- Any items that cannot be washed and dried or dry-cleaned, such as stuffed animals or plush toys, should be sealed in airtight bags for at least two weeks.

- All carpets and upholstered furniture should be thoroughly vacuumed. Don’t forget the car and any throw rugs you may have.

- Wash hair-care items in very hot water or soak them in medicated shampoo for at least an hour. You may also soak items such as barrettes, headbands, brushes, and combs in rubbing alcohol for an hour to kill head lice.

Another helpful but common head louse treatment tip is to simply wet the hair, which temporarily immobilizes the lice, before thoroughly combing the hair with a special, fine-toothed comb. Some swear by home remedies such as completely saturating the hair with petroleum jelly or mayonnaise, or using natural, herbal oils including lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, and oil of rosemary.

The following common head louse treatment methods are simple and effective, yet gentle on even sensitive skin and don’t use any harsh or toxic chemicals:

- Mix a teaspoon of garlic paste with an equal amount of lime juice and apply to the scalp. Leave on for about half an hour before thoroughly shampooing.

- Grind almonds into three teaspoons of lime juice, applying to the scalp and hair for half an hour before shampooing.

- Mayonnaise or petroleum jelly may be applied to the scalp and hair in an attempt to suffocate the lice, although both are rather difficult to remove from the hair, requiring several washings.

- Mix a few teaspoons of tea tree oil with olive oil, applying to the hair and scalp and leaving in place for about an hour before rinsing out and shampooing.

While reading this article it is very important to fully understand the details provided. To do so please carefully read the following guidelines.

If there is a parasite that like to attack warm blooded creatures, at some point it will likely bother your dog. And when it comes to lice that like to chew on a creature that just wants to live a peaceful life, dogs get afflicted with these parasites in miserable ways sometimes. As a dog owner, its good to keep an eye on man’s best friend to make sure that you do all you can to help the family dog stay pest free and lice free as well. <a onClick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=” http://www.leasureviews.info/lice/Chewing-Lice.php”>Click Here</a>

In this quest for a pest free dog, your veterinarian is essential every step of the way. We are in an era where you can put your dog on a medicine that will help him let out preventive chemicals every week to keep lice and fleas from biting. This is a huge help that can cut down on how often biting lice get on your dog and make him miserable. But there are cases where these preventive measures are not sufficient to stop nature from taking its course.

If you notice your dog scratch and developing sore spots, a little close inspection might show that biting and chewing lice are driving him crazy. This is an unhealthy situation and activity should be taken as speedily as possible. Your veteran can make sure you have the right skin treatment which is Pyrethrin shampoo that can clean the lice off of his skin and begin the healing process. While your dog may not be that interested in having a bath and having you mess with those sore places on his body where he lice have done their damage, it is crucial to clean it to stop the progress of the damage.

It’s a good idea to keep some Pyrethrin shampoo around because it often happens that you need to stage an intervention with your dog on a moments notice. Then when you have the lice subdued, you can take your pet to the veterinarian to get more medical care for the damage to his skin. The vet may need to give him some antibiotics or a steroid shot to help reduce the itching and to speed healing of the skin. <a onClick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=” http://www.leasureviews.info/lice/Chewing-Lice.php”>Click Here</a>

The itching of healing can be a problem for a dog who doesn’t know not to scratch that area to allow it to heal. Often the vet with prescribe a tablet that reduces itching so the dog will not be so mindful of it. If not, often benadryl does wonders for a dog and it helps him relax and sleep which is all healthy for a dog who is trying to regain from lice bites. But you will need to keep up the Pyrethrin shampoo treatments for a couple weeks to kill off any fresh fleas that appear on the dog as a result of eggs dream up out. But by being protective and persistent, you and your pooch can beat this problem.

Discovery that one’s child has head lice has to rank as one of the most unpleasant moments of parenthood. But it doesn’t have to be one of the hardest to deal with when one is armed with accurate and effective information on how to eradicate them.

Common head lice, or pediculus humanus capitis, are closely related to body lice. But unlike their close relatives, which can appear anywhere on the body, head lice, as the name indicates, are only found in the hair and on the scalp and sometimes in the eyebrows and lashes.

A head louse is about the size of a sesame seed. It bites the victim’s scalp in order to feed on blood. The bites can cause intense itching that is sometimes the first sign that someone is infested. The lice themselves are sometimes seen close to the scalp, or nits (lice eggs) are seen in the hair. Nits are tiny whitish/yellowish egg cases that are attached to individual hair shafts.

Head lice cannot jump. They are passed by direct contact with someone who has them, or by using an infested person’s comb, brush, etc.; by wearing their hats, helmets, or hair accessories, or by sharing towels or pillows. Having head lice does not mean you are unsanitary or practice poor hygiene. They are very common in schools where children easily pass them to each other.

For years the most popular way to remove head lice was by means of commercial chemical treatments. Some of these chemicals are not only harmful to lice, but toxic to humans as well. Because it is the mechanical removal of the lice and nits that does the most good, it is really unnecessary to take the risks associated with harsh chemical treatments. There are many natural herbal treatments that are just as effective for lice removal, like shampoos made with tea tree oil.

A nit comb is also critical in removing any eggs from the hair shafts once the live lice are killed. It is very hard to tell if nits are dead or alive, so it is best to remove them all in order to prevent further infestation. It is a laborious process to remove all of the nits from a full head of hair, to be sure, but is really the only way to ensure they do not hatch and start the whole process over again!

While most people would still want to wash any bedding used by an infested person, it is really not necessary to launder or dispose of other items like stuffed animals and other belongings like experts used to advise. Lice cannot live for more than a day without the blood they obtain from their human hosts. Very thorough vacuuming to remove any hairs from carpet and other surfaces should suffice, or, for smaller objects, a tumble in a hot clothes dryer for a half hour.

Having head lice is not fun. But with a little knowledge, some safe natural remedies, and a nit comb, they can become simply a bad memory in no time.

The following article should be exactly what you have been looking for all this time.

It’s a delicate topic but there are three areas of the body where lice can infect you and each one of them requires an effort to get rid of the problem. The most well known area for lice infestation is the hair of the head because that is one that young children often come in contact with through school or some other setting where the minor is with other children who can infect an entire community. Skin lice are also not uncommon. But the delicate area that lice sometimes like to take up residency is the pubic hair. <a onClick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=” http://www.leasureviews.info/lice/Crab-Lice.php “>Click Here</a>

Sometimes lice of the pubic area are referred to crab lice. That is a case of misguided identity because the infection known as “crabs” is actually a mite that is just as troublesome and embarrassing to come down with. But the crab mite is dissimilar from the public lice that can also infest this area. Its good to keep things clear so you know what kind of problem you are facing and how to go aboutseeking treatment.

If you get lice in your pubic hair, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that lice in your pubic area has nothing to do with how clean you are as a person. You don’t get lice from poor bathing habits or lack of attention to hygiene in this area. The bad news is that pubic or crab lice are almost always spread through sexual activity with somebody else who has the problem. So that throws a light on who you had as a sexual activity partner. If you wish to be a good citizen, you would be doing him or her a favor to let them know you revealed the problem. The blame game can go on later. For now everyone just needs to get the problem under control.

The evidence of lice in the pubic area are the same for men or women but they might not show up right away after the night of the infection. But once the lice begin to infect your hair down there, it could get rather uncomfortable and lead to a mass of itching and unsightly sores that you will want to get attended to. The symptoms include itching, appearance of droppings of the lice in your under garments and light blue spots on your pubic skin that sometimes get red and sore. <a onClick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=” http://www.leasureviews.info/lice/Crab-Lice.php “>Click Here</a>

Treatment for the lice problem will always be done with an ointment or cleanser to apply to the area to defeat the lice. Some of the commercial treatments contain harsh chemicals that can irritate the skin further and sting on application, particularly if you have fresh sores from the infection. But there area also natural treatments that work just as well without the negative side effect.

Take a look at some of our other articles and dare to be educated.

Do you or a loved one have head lice? Don’t be embarrassed as the best of us have had them at one point or another in our lives. And you need not rush off to the chemist to purchase an over the counter head lice treatment either, especially if you can’t get to the chemist. With the use of a natural treatment you can be head lice free in a very short time. All you need to do to remove the head lice is give the infected head an olive oil treatment.

You’re Equipment

For this process to work effectively the whole household needs to undergo the head lice olive oil treatment . You begin with yourself and then work your way through each of your family member’s one by one. You will only get re-infested with head lice if the other members of your home do not undergo some kind of head lice home treatment. To take care of your bedding and sleepwear put them in the dryer (if you have one) and let them tumble around on high heat for ten minutes. That will be hot enough to kill the eggs. If you don’t have a dryer wash in very hot water and hang to dry.

Now don’t go using the best oil in the cupboard(the cheaper the better), the head lice are not that fussy and using extra virgin imported olive oil for a head lice olive oil treatment is very painful to your bank account. You will need the smallest tooth comb you have but if you don’t have one on hand use the fine end of your regular comb. You also need a roll of paper towels. If you have on hand lavender or tea tree essential oil you can also add this as head lice hate the smell of these oils.

The Next Step

In your bathtub or shower get your hair as wet as you can. Then mix ten parts olive oil to one part essential oil, or just slathers the oil on. The oil has to be plastered on your head. Leave it in your hair for at least fifteen minutes, allowing time for the head lice to suffocate. When the fifteen minutes are up comb your hair thoroughly, wiping the comb on the paper towels after each swipe. There will be nits caught in the olive oil. Then rinse your head.

The worst part of this process is that it is time consuming and that you will most likely need to repeat this procedure once more in three days or so. Repeat it anyway in less than a week even if you don’t see any signs of head lice, just to make sure you caught any eggs that have hatched since the first head lice olive oil treatment.

Lice infest people of all ages, rich or poor. Lice prefer clean hair because their nits (eggs) stick to cleaner hair much better than oily hair. Beside direct physical contact, using infected person’s personal belongings such comb, hair brush, towels, bed linen, etc also spread lice. Children are the most infected with lice than adults.

You know you have lice when you experience intense bouts of itching on the scalp and the back of the neck and soreness on touch. When you see the scalp, area in and around the nape of the neck, you will see small white eggs called nits attached steadfastly to hair shafts. Unlike dandruff, these nits can be bit stubborn; hence pulling them out with fingers can prove to be difficult.

Easy to prevent, but difficult to treat – good hygiene is the most effective prevention of head lice.
-	Avoid sharing personal items like combs, brushes, towels, pillows, hats, headwear, etc.
-	Avoid head to head contact with any person.
-	Trim your hair to a shorter length as lice can not find suitable environment in short hair.
-	Do a regular check in and around the nape of the neck, behind the ears and scalp, especially for children.
-	If one member of the family is infected with lice, treat all the members of the family at the same time to prevent lice spreading from one head to another.

To get rid of lice, you should get rid of all its nits or eggs. Nits are difficult to kill by any treatment. Since they attach themselves firmly on the hair shafts, they are also bit difficult to be pulled out… Vigorous brushing of your hair 2-3 times a day using a bristle hair brush will knock off most nits. Try using flea combs instead of lice combs for better results. Try some of these home based treatments to cure lice problem

-	Mix ½ cup olive oil with 2-3 tbsp of tea tree oil. Rub into scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash your hair to remove the oil. Then rinse your hair with vinegar as it loosens the holding properties of the eggs and nits on your hair. Wait for 10 mins and rinse with hot water. Repeat vinegar rinse twice. Comb your hair using lice or flea comb to remove any remaining nits.

-	Mix 4-5 drops of tea tree oil with your daily shampoo and use as usual.

-	Warm few tbsp of mayonnaise (depending on who is using it either a child or adult). Slather it on the scalp just like shampoo. Wear a shower cap and sit for 30 minutes. Then wash your hair with normal shampoo. Then use fine toothed comb to get the eggs and bugs out. The oils in the mayonnaise provide lubrication to the hair and scalp, eliminating the ability of the eggs to hold on to the hair shafts. The shower cap cuts off any air flow the eggs needed to remain alive.

-	Saturate your hair with olive oil and wear a shower cap with clip leaving it overnight. Brush out your hair using nit/flea/lice comb. Then wash your hair as usual with your shampoo and conditioner. Next take plain white vinegar and rinse your hair with it. Use warm water to remove vinegar. This dissolves the eggs. Repeat the vinegar rinse till needed.

-	Completely soak hair with olive oil and wrap it in towel for 1-2 hours. Rinse and wash as usual. Work through your hair with fine tooth comb to remove eggs and lice. Repeat in one week.

-	Mix any type of edible oil (vegetable, canola or olive) with vinegar in equal proportion. Add 18-20 drops of tea tree oil. Mix all the 3 ingredients well to get a creamy paste. Apply to damp hair. Massage well onto the scalp and comb through the ends of hair. Wrap a plastic bag around your head for 3 hours or more. Lice and nits will suffocate and slide off easily. Do this at least once a week.

Do not leave the young children unattended if you’re covering their heads with plastic bags during any of the above home based treatment – as plastic bags can lead to suffocation.

Tea tree oil is an herb with many functions and has been used by Australian Aboriginal people for centuries. They used the leaves of the tree as an antifungal and antiseptic by crushing the leaves and making a pack.

It was considered essential by the Australian government for the first aid kit of armed forces during the Second World War. Once the war was over, there was an increased use of antibiotics which led to a decrease in the use tea tree oil’s all over except in Australia. In 1960, it regained its popularity everywhere. Today, Melaleuca alternifolia is grown in many places including California.

The properties of the tea tree oil are present in its leaves. The oil is manufactured by the process of steam – distillation of the leaves. The main active substances in the oil are 1,8-cineole, terpinen-4-ol, p-cymene, gamma-terpinene and other turpenes. The aroma of the oil is that of a pleasant disinfectant.

Uses include:
• Antiseptic : It can be used to treat conditions like insect bites, burns, cuts, acne, bruises, infected wounds, boils, scabies, chillblains, lice, diaper rash, hives, prickly heat, and sunburn as it is an excellent natural antiseptic.

• Anti inflammatory : It has anti inflammatory properties and can be applied topically for sprains, bunions, arthritis, bursitis, gout, eczema, hemorrhoids and also carpal tunnel syndrome.

• Analgesic : It can be used for relief from pain

• Anti Fungal : It also has Anti Fungal function which can take care of athlete’s foot, albicans, thrush, jock itch, ringworm, and onychomycosis (Infection of the nails).

• Preventive: Surgeons in hospitals in Australia treat patients with it before surgery to help those with chronic illnesses like chronic fatigue syndrome and give a boost to the suppressed immune system.

• Household cleaning: It is natural solvent which makes it an excellent biodegradable cleaning agent. It can be used as a deodorizer, for washing cotton diapers; or disinfectant and to treat houseplants for molds, parasitic infections and fungus.

Toothpaste and tea tree oil
The disinfectant and antiseptic properties of it makes it ideal for use in products for oral hygiene. Mouth washes and toothpastes containing tea tree oil have been proved to be effective against many oral problems. Some of these are, gum disease, halitosis (bad breath), and cancer sores.

Brushing your teeth with toothpaste which has tea tree oil as an ingredient or adding some to your usual toothpaste is recommended. This will help both teeth and gums. You can even add a couple of drops of the oil to the water to be used for gargling. A few drops of the tea tree oil applied on the sore area would bring down the inflammation.

The use of Tea tree oil has also been done to kill oral bacteria prior to dental surgery and to decrease the irritation in the mouth caused due to dental procedures. In patients who have oral candidiasis, which is a fungal infection of the throat and mouth, a mouth rinse containing tea tree oil may prove effective in reducing symptoms.

Head lice are parasitic insects called Pediculus humanus capitis. They only live on the heads of people. They lay eggs, called nits, which stick to hair very close to the scalp. Head lice do not spread disease. Lice present on other body parts covered by hair are not head lice but are either pubic lice (Pthirus pubis) or body lice (Pediculus humanus humanus). Head lice spread through direct contact among children or indirectly on items such as hats, combs, hairbrushes and head phones. Head lice can live up to 3 days off the scalp. Although the eggs can also survive for up to 3 days, they need a warm environment to develop. Head lice infestations occur most frequently in schoolchildren because they tend to be in close personal contact with each other and to share brushes and combs.

Head lice are not associated with a lack of cleanliness (in fact, some believe that lice prefer clean hair). Head lice develop in three forms: nits, nymphs, and adults. Nits are head lice eggs. They are hard to see and are often mistaken for dandruff or droplets of hairspray. Nits are found firmly attached to the hair shaft. Nymphs are immature adult head lice. Nymphs mature into adults about 7 days after hatching. To live, nymphs must feed on blood. An adult louse is about the size of a sesame seed, has six legs, and is tan to greyish- white. In persons with dark hair, adult lice will look darker. Adult lice can live up to 30 days on a person’s head. The most common symptom is itching of the scalp, caused when the louse bites through the skin to feed on blood.

Other symptoms include irritation caused by the louse’s saliva, insomnia, adenopathy, hair loss in massive infestations and psychological disturbs, also excessive scratching may cause bleeding of the scalp, which may increase the risk of microbial infection. The most important step in treating head lice is to treat the person and other family members with medicine to kill the lice. Cutting the hair very short will cause an insufficient ambient temperature for lice to live in. While effective. Apply conditioner or olive oil to make it easier to comb the hair with the fine-toothed comb. Herbal treatments (including tea tree oil) are sometimes used to treat head lice. Apply lice medicine, also called pediculicide , according to label instructions. You can also add tee tree oil or lavender oil to your regular shampoo.
