Tea tree oil acne and boils treatment is becomming more and more common and worth exploring.

A boil is an inflamed area, usually based in a hair follicle, and can be caused by a physical condition such as acne, or severe dermatitis and can also result from low immunity, irritations, an illness, stress, food allergy, poor diet, shaving, plucking hairs or poor hygiene. A boil usually starts as a tender area, becoming hard and swelling, and eventually softening and forming a head. The head is filled with bacteria and the white blood cells fighting the infection (pus). Staphylococcus is the bacteria that is usually found in the pus of a boil.

The bacteria involved are those usually present on healthy skin, so the boil is an indication of low resistance to infection. It is advised not to lance the boil, because bacteria can spread to nearby skin and create new boils. Apply hot packs for up to 20 minutes at a time, throughout the day, as the heat draws more white blood cells, thereby helping to fight the infection. Do not cover with a bandaid. Wash with tea tree oil soap and apply antiseptic cream containing tea tree oil. A drop or two of tea tree oil may also be applied directly to the boil. Dab it on with a piece of clean cotton, do not rub or otherwise irritate the boil.

Procedure to be followed periodically throughout the day:

Dab some tea tree oil onto the boil with a piece of cotton to help bring it to a head, then cover with a piece of gauze. Cover the gauze with a damp washcloth, followed by a dry towel and then apply a heating pad. Leave on a low temperature for about 15 minutes. Change your dressing and reapply the tea tree oil. The oil helps bring the boil to a head while the warm compress helps pull the infection out of the skin; the tea tree oil then acts as an antiseptic and antibiotic on the bacteria in the pus. Be sure to throw away the gauze each time, and wash your hands with tea tree oil soap each time you handle the gauze or touch the boil.

Sometimes a boil’s bacteria can spread to a lymph node that is nearby. If there is a boil on the neck, check the lymph glands for swelling and tenderness. You should visit a doctor if this occurs, also if there is fever or lethargy. It’s important to learn to listen to your body and recognize when tea tree oil acne and boils treatment will be enough, and when you need the help of a doctor.

Herbs have been used for a wide variety of health care remedies since the beginning of time. Using elements that occur naturally can effectively treat acne and other skin conditions. Herbal skin care is affordable, accessible and less like to cause skin irritation and sensitivity than traditional medications. When certain herbs are applied to your skin topically, they can be a healthy alternative solution to prescription medications.

Eucalyptus: This essential oil comes from the eucalyptus tree, which is one of the tallest known trees in the world and can be found in Australia, Africa, North America, India and Southern Europe. Eucalyptus is the most powerful antiseptic in its class and has outstanding astringent qualities, which aid in the treatment of acne-prone skin.

Papaya Enzyme: The papaya is a tropical fruit that has a nutrient-rich enzyme called papin. This enzyme is used to dissolve unwanted proteins and other dead materials on the surface of your skin. The papaya enzyme works to open pores, exfoliate, promote the turnover of skin cells, soften and smooth skin and improve your overall skin tone.

Sage: This silvery-green plant has fragrant leaves and is found growing in the Mediterranean and North America. Sage oil contains chemical substances and other constituents, such as as camphor, cineole, rosmarinic acid, tannins and others. The substances found in sage oil have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral effects, which make it an outstanding medicinal skin treatment.

Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is obtained from the leaves of the native Australian Melaleuca alternifolia tree. This oil has natural antibacterial qualities, contains antiseptic compounds and is proven to be a very good skin disinfectant. When used to treat acne, it is just as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide and less drying. However, the results of treatment with tea tree oil take just a little bit longer to see than with benzoyl peroxide.

Thyme: Thyme is the general name for herbs of the Thymus species, which are native to the western Mediterranean region. The essential thyme oil is located in the small glands on the leaves and contains thymol, linalol and paracymene. Thyme is effective in treating acne-prone skin because of its multiple actions, including antibacterial, antioxidant, antiseptic and astringent.

Witch Hazel: Witch hazel is the common name for a genus of shrubs known as Hamamelis and is rich in natural astringents such as volatile oils and tannins. Witch hazel has antiseptic capabilities that tone the skin and blood vessels, as well as draw out clogged pores.

Exploring holistic remedies can give you clearer, more healthy skin. Incorporating herbal skin care products with natural ingredients into your daily skin care regimen will improve your skin’s overall appearance over time.

A basic description of acne would be that acne is a systemic inflammatory disease that affects the skin. But what causes acne? There are several factors that may cause acne and they are:

– hormone imbalance during the teen years

– hormone changes during pregnancy, menstrual cycle and menopause

– heredity

– some drugs, including androgens, lithium, and barbiturates, are known to cause acne

– using greasy cosmetics that can alter the follicle cells so that they stick together

– high humidity

– stress

There are several natural things that you can do to help your skin heal:

First would be to get rid of cosmetics that are greasy and filled with chemicals you can’t pronounce. There are lots of natural cosmetics and skin care products that are good for the skin and do not promote acne.

Give your body a break and eat a healthy diet and avoid processed and deep fried foods as well as soft drinks and other sugary foods. Be sure to eat lots of vegetables.

Get rid of as many toxins as you can. They come in the form of detergents, air fresheners, perfumes, fabric softeners, soaps, deodorants, house cleaning products, etc. Use natural alternatives to these and help your body stay healthy.

To help you heal your acne, here are some natural skin care remedies you can try:

Baking Soda Paste — Put some baking soda in water to form a paste. Dab the paste on your skin gently and then rinse. This paste will exfoliate the skin and unclog your pores.

Apple Cider Vinegar — Vinegar is known to kill bacteria which can cause acne. It is also great for balancing your skin’s pH and will help eliminate excess oil from the skin. Put one teaspoon of vinegar in 1/4 cup of water, or even stronger if you want. Put the vinegar on your skin and leave for about 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse.

Tea Tree Oil — Tea tree oil is well know as an antiseptic. Apply it directly on each pimple. Tea tree oil comes in a gel which can make it easier to apply over larger areas of the skin. It is not quite as strong as the oil, however, so may not be as effective.

Aloe Vera — Put aloe vera gel directly on the skin and leave on. It is helpful in preventing scaring and helps the skin heal more quickly.

Colloidal Silver — A natural antibiotic is colloidal silver. You can buy it as a spray and just spray it directly onto your skin.

Grapefruit Seed Extract — GSE is a powerful disinfectant and antimicrobial. You can buy it in liquid form. Put 10 to 20 drops in two ounces of water and apply to affected areas.

When applying these remedies use a soft cloth, either flannel or cotton, or use cotton balls. Do not apply by rubbing them on but dab on gently.

Those of us who suffer from oily skin understand just how hard it can be to control the condition. While there are facial skin care products available to help “mop up” the excess oil, there are very few that actually help to prevent the over-production of oil altogether. In fact, some creams, moisturizers, cleansers, and astringents are far too harsh for oily skin types and can cause excess dryness and blotchy skin.

One of the best ways to keep oily skin under control is to develop a good skin-cleansing routine. Washing your face with a liquid cleanser (never use bar soap!), then following by a gentle toner and pH-balancing moisturizer is a great place to start. You may have to try a few products before you find one that works, but try to stick to very gentle cleansers; the ones for sensitive skin usually work best for oily skin types. Try to perform this routine once at the beginning of the day and once again before bed.

There are many over-the-counter products available for treating oily skin that you can try out, but in severe cases, you may find that the best solution is to seek a dermatologist and try a prescription medication. If you are looking for a natural approach to clear skin, products containing tea tree oil or witch hazel are excellent, as they are naturally antibacterial. A good mud or clay-based masque once a week can also work wonders for tightening up pores.

You may want to consider products that contain grape seed or jojoba, as they are known for forming a sort of “seal” over the skin to keep bacteria and dirt out. You may also try an exfoliating scrub with oatmeal or apricot to rid the dead skin and daily grime from your skin.

There are an abundance of oily skin products on the market today, but it is very important that you choose from them wisely. If you are uncertain what to buy, it is strongly recommended that you obtain some advice from your local doctor. There are plenty of options available to you for curing oily skin, it is really just a system of trial and error when it comes to finding the right product. Even with prescription medication, you may find that one works better than others, or some may have undesirable side effects.

The first question a consumer often asks before purchasing a skin care product is “Is it natural?” This perception has come about because numerous natural companies have been misinterpreting safety data sheets. Of course the reason they do this is to make their cosmetic seem safer when in reality this may not be the case.

Usually this inaccurate data comes in the form of Material Safety Data Sheets that have been taken out of context. Unfortunately MSDS often use animal studies as a determinant of safety , This however is not accurate and does not follow that that the same adverse effects are inevitable in humans.

Using animals as a means of deciding whether drugs and chemicals are safe has no weight what so ever. Most drugs are metabolised entirely differently by humans then animals. Even within the animal family some species will have no health affects while others will be killed by the same substance.

Thalidomide, a drug prescribed for morning sickness in the 60′s was tested on animals prior to release and deemed safe upon animal testing but soon after was found to cause birth defects in humans. Aspirin also causes birth defects in monkeys amongst many other animal species but is safe in humans.

With the massive amount of inaccurate information flying around the internet is it any wonder that consumers are going natural but natural does not mean safer for allergic skins.

Lavender oil which is frequently used in baby products and liberally in adult cosmetics is considered by most people to be fantastic because of its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender however makes the skin more prone to burning from UV rays and also causes pigmentation, a condition that women pay hundreds to thousands of dollars to get rid of. Of course natural companies will not tell you that by using their lavender product that they will give you pigmentation. You are only told how fantastic it is and not what the long term consequences of use are.

Lavender and Tea Tree Oil have also been dubbed gender bender chemicals. Both of these natural oils have been shown to induce breast development in prepubescent boys. The report in The New England Journal of Medicine found that use of personal care products was a strong contributor to this phenomenon.

Lavender also is associated with contact dermatitis and allergies. Lavender contains Coumarin (makes you burn quicker), Geraniol, Limonene and Linalool; all of which are listed of the EU regulated list of contact allergens. Not a good choice for those with hypersensitivities. Of course this information about natural products is hidden from consumers in an attempt by natural companies to get a competitive edge over their synthetic counterparts.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) is hailed as being terrible for your skin and there is no doubt it can dry your skin and cause problems. Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is the benchmark for irritancy, it is what everything else is compared to. However replacing SLS with other surfactants does not mean you will not have an allergy. The newest breed of surfactants are derived from sugar and so are deemed natural, the fact that SLS comes from coconut another natural souce is not mentioned of course by natural companies. The Glucosides come from sugar and yes they are natural, but don’t use them if you have allergies. I have seen first hand people who look like they have been burnt from a couple of uses. Decyl Glucoside which is commonly used has a pH of 11. Yes you read that correctly. It is so alkaline that Citric Acid must be added at the end of formulation to bring down the pH so it does not burn your skin.

Do not rely on safety data sheets as an indicator of safeness. What causes an allergy in one person does not in another. Education however is the best knowledge you can have as it allows you to have choice and not be misled by hyped up advertising.

No matter how diligently you apply sunscreen when you remember to, there are times when you don’t do it often enough or forget to bring it or miss a spot or two. The resulting sunburn can be painful, embarrassing and in the worst case scenarios can make you or someone you love miss precious vacation days and fun!

And if your kids are burned that compounds the misery because you suffer along with them even if you’re not the one affected. You’ll want to find the fastest most effective relief available, for you and your family, true?!

Living on Maui, I see victims of improper (or lack of) sunscreen use practically every day and I want to stop each and every one of them and enlighten them about what they can do to: relieve the pain, make the red turn brown and keep from peeling. You read that right! They don’t believe me when I tell them either, but I’ve had the advantage of having the solution at hand and have proven that it works time after time.

Remember: when your skin is burned, continuing to go out into the sun before it is healed without proper protection will only make the situation worse and you or your child will burn MORE. Here’s how to heal sunburn, the fastest way I’ve found.

When you see red skin or sunburn, the first thing needed is moisture…at the cellular level! It is through moisture that skin cells acquire the ability to reproduce and repair themselves.

Most people just want to apply aloe and Aloe Gel straight from the plant is a great skin healer. But on its own, aloe is astringent. And most of the time we don’t have a plant that we can freely hack at accessible.

Many will opt for the green or blue aloe gels available in local drug stores. Here you still have the disadvantage of the astringent and drying nature of the aloe itself along with the fact that most of these aloe products purchased over-the-counter contain alcohol. The alcohol will further dry the skin, inhibiting its healing abilities. Additionally, they are usually made from an inferior form of the aloe plant, not the healing extract.

The fastest and most effective relief for a severe sunburn is combination of two Absolutely Natural products: Aloe & Tea Tree Recovery Gel AND Rosehip & Aloe Lotion.

When you go in from the sun, put the products on ice or in the refrigerator, have the sunburned victim take a warm shower – not so hot it hurts, just warm enough to open the pores. WITHIN 5 MINUTES, apply the Rosehip Lotion liberally to get moisture to the cells and start the healing process.

Then, also liberally, apply the Aloe and Tea Tree Gel. Aloe Vera and Tea Tree Oil are amazing skin healers and work quickly and effectively. This is a gel, so when it dries it will feel tight and flaky – just wipe the flakes away and re-apply the Rosehip Lotion. A couple of hours later, repeat the process – you don’t have to re-shower – and if you’re still up for a while, then apply the Lotion once again before you go to bed. The more moisture supplied to the skin cells, the faster the skin will heal – and you’ll all be able to go back out in the sun and have FUN!

For just a little pink, the Rosehip Lotion alone will give fast relief from the discomfort, start the skin cells to healing themselves right away and you’ll see results as soon as the next morning. Once your skin is healed, you can tan.

I actually had occasion to “save a vacation” this last week. A friend of mine and her daughter, visiting Maui from Nebraska to celebrate the daughter’s thirteenth birthday and entry into teenager-dom, went to Ka’anapali Beach and didn’t use any sunscreen. She explained that she’d been to another beach a couple of days before, late in the day on fairly cloudy days & they hadn’t used any then, but this was a bright, sunny day and we played on the sand, in the water and snorkeled for about 3 hours.

She’s always been a very organized person, so I just assumed that she had put her sunscreen on and was sure she made her daughter do so. Not the case. They FRIED! They were so red, they were practically glowing and in a lot of pain! So, I took them home, provided mom with bottles of Aloe and Tea Tree Gel and Rosehip Lotion and the instructions above. (Additionally, ibuprophen will help with the pain so that you can sleep.)

The next day, they weren’t glowing any more but still a little pink, so they opted to stay out of the sun altogether. (Not a winning proposition for the new teenager!) However, they both exclaimed that the pain was gone and raved at how good it felt to put the lotion on their skin, especially when it was chilled. She continued to apply the lotion periodically during the day to both herself and her daughter. On day two after the burn, the pink was entirely gone, they looked tan and healthy and felt great. They applied Absolutely Natural SPF 25 and were able to head out to the beach to surf. Sometimes I’m even surprised at how fast it heals your skin!

Then there’s the added bonus of making a teenager a lot less miserable. We all know how they can get and when you compound that with a sunburn and instructions to stay out of the sun because of it…well, you get the picture. I was a hero to both of them, and they had lots more fun on their vacation.

I’ve used Absolutely Natural products on myself and my family for years and will continue to do so! They are the best! So, remember what Aunty Connie says: apply sunscreen often, properly and liberally…and if you don’t and you get a sunburn, there is a solution.

The best way for you and your kids to avoid a sunburn situation in the first place is to use safe, effective sunscreen – every time you are doing outdoor activities — apply it properly, liberally and often and keep your skin in the best condition possible by keeping it moist.

All the major brands selling natural and wellness products, have introduce the products containing tea tree oil. The customer preference for natural products have made it an important ingredient in cosmetic and medicinal products requiring antiseptic, anti fungal and anti inflammatory products.

So what exactly is tea tree oil? It is obtained from steam distillation of melaleuca alternifolia tree found in New South Wales, Australia. It was used by Australian Bundjalung aborigines to treat skin conditions by crushing the leaves and using pulp over affected area.

British Explorers used the leaves for making tea from where it got its name. It was only in 1920 when Dr. Arthur Penfold, researched its antiseptic properties and it came in lime light. The use of it as an antiseptic never really grew till the Second World War; however with advent of synthetic antiseptic it lost its important.

Has your scalp or skin ever been uncomfortably itchy? Do you know someone who has an itchy scalp or itchy skin? Itching can cause extreme misery for the sufferer, however many causes of itchiness can be solved with simple remedies. There are many reasons why the scalp or skin may be irritated. So before you seek a dermatologist’s help, ask yourself the following:

1)Are you using a shampoo or shower gel made from detergents like sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate? Although these detergents lather wonderfully they can dry your scalp or skin out to the point of being extremely itchy. Consider switching to a natural soap-based liquid or bar cleanser, or try making your own cleansers yourself. Natural soaps are much kinder to the skin and scalp because they are made from vegetable oils instead of petroleum derivatives.

2)Is your laundry detergent making your skin itch? Laundry detergents are made from harsh cleansers and they are so strong that some of the residue may be left on your clothes even after the rinse cycle. When you dry your clothes, that laundry detergent residue is left on them. When you wear your clothes the laundry detergent residue comes into contact with your skin. As an alternative try a natural laundry powder available at health food stores or make your own soap, grate it, and use it as a natural laundry powder.

3)Are you suffering from allergic reactions to one or more food items? Commercially prepared foods contain many different ingredients which can sometimes cause allergic reactions. Try changing your diet by eliminating one food item at a time and see if this helps.

4)Has your skin come into contact with a bacteria or fungus that could cause itching (like athlete’s foot)? Try applying tea tree oil, or a product containing tea tree oil to the spot that is irritated. According to Dr. Ruth Winter, M.S., author of A Consumer’s Dictionary Of Cosmetic Ingredients, tea tree oil is “eleven to 13 times stronger than carbolic acid” and is non-toxic to the skin.

5) Are you suffering from bug bites? Bites from mosquitos and other insects usually swell and cause intense itching. Try applying several drops of lavender essential oil directly on the bug bite itself to soothe the itching.

Briefly… about the virus…
Influenza A is a virus with many subtypes that are identified and categorized by differences in two proteins, hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). Differences are due to the rapid mutation of the virus. The scientific community has learned quite a bit about Influenza A virus, but the fact remains that we are unable to know what we don’t know and the virus mutates rapidly, becoming something new. Antiviral drugs do not eliminate the virus; they inhibit the replication of the virus. Learning more about the life-cycle of a virus has lead to the development of anti-viral strategies that target the virus at different stages in that cycle.

Timeliness…
We are currently experiencing a flu outbreak that may be very significant and potentially devastating to individuals and communities, as well on a much larger level. We should all be using common sense in protecting and taking care of ourselves and our families. I won’t use this as a pulpit for my position on things that are related and responsible in varied degree. I will give you some information that you may want to have to arm and educate yourself.

Essential oils and viral replication…
All essential oils are anti-microbial to a degree. There is a tremendous amount of anecdotal, cultural and historical information that tells us that certain plants are effective against certain aliments. I am focusing here on essential oils that have laboratory documented anti-viral efficacy, although I think we should listen to our Grandmothers… anyone ever been given schwedenkrauter for whatever ailed you?

Coconut oil – not an essential oil but worth mentioning. About 50% of the fatty acid in Coconut oil is Lauric acid, the most essential fatty acid for the building of an immune system. In the body, it is converted to monolaurin, a powerful monoglyceride that destroys lipid-coated viruses (such as cytomegalovirus, HIV, herpes, and influenza) as well as pathogenic bacteria. I use this on the skin and in the kitchen. The smell and taste of organic raw coconut oil are just fabulous.

Oregano oil - A study cited in Annals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials 2009, 8:8 indicate that Oreganum vulgare and Artemisia vulgaris have inhibitory effects the replication of the Yellow Fever virus. Apparently the presence of O. vulgare essential oil in the culture medium at 11.1 ug/mL produced a 100% reduction of virus yield. (A Ug is a microgram, 1/1000000 of a gram or 1/1000 of a milligram.) Oregano eo seems to be effective because of direct inactivation of the virus rather than being effective only at a stage in the life cycle of the virus.

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) was also tested in the above referenced study and produced similar striking results. Mugwort is very high in ketones and should be only used by the experienced.

Tea Tree - A study conducted by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases revealed that replication of a strain of influenza was severely inhibited of the Tea Tree eo was introduced within 2 hours of infection. This suggests that Tea Tree eo interferes in an early stage of replication but after viral adsorption. Tea Tree eo is inexpensive and is pretty stable (has a long shelf life).

I grew up across the street from the Village Sauna and up the hill from the American River in Fair Oaks, California. Native plants and salves and tinctures were ever present. Victoria Edwards was a massage therapist at the Sauna and lived next door to us on Harmony Hill. Her handmade massage blends of the 70′s grew into Leydet Aromatics, a world-wide supplier of essential oils and aromatherapy supplies recognized for quality and customer service. I began working for Leydet in 1995, years of focused learning and growth followed. When Victoria began a sabbatical in Southern France in 2004, there became a need for a restructuring of the business that she had built. Out of this, Emily’s Oils and Essentials was born; a company dedicated to continuing the legacy of Leydet by serving customers in the spirit of healing and the rightful use of plants. I intend to provide a seamless transition for loyal Leydet customers and to continue to introduce people to the sensory pleasures and healing properties of nature’s gifts
